So...what did everyone think of the book?

I was really excited when I saw that this was the required reading material. Partly because I read the Kite Runner earlier this summer and thought it was a really convenient coincidence for me that it was choosen, and because it was just a freaking awesome book. Everyone I've talked to whose read it seems to share that sentiment, so what does everyone on here think?

I think I really related the the father-son strained relationship aspect of the book, since my father and I have gone back and forth from close to completely disconnected and everywhere in between. His father's struggling to keep his pride and lifestyle at the same time hits home, because my dad always tried to be self reliant, and has passed that on to me, just like Ali does. Maybe this "self reliance" motif is reflected in the civil war of Afghanistan, or maybe i read to far into that. Also it has been all summer since I read the book, it is currently with a friend who wanted to read it, I need to get it back to refresh my memory.

I loved it! It can be tough to swallow some parts of the book (ie Assef and Hassan) but that's only because the book is unforgivinglly realistic.
